Biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR), considered one of the all-time most successful winter sport athletes. Won eight Olympic gold medals between Nagano 1998 and Sochi 2014 (as well as four silvers and one bronze). Between 1998 and 2016, he won 20 World Championships gold medals.

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Missed the normal hill/10km event in Beijing 2022 as well as the large hill/10km event due to quarantine (COVID-19). He got out in time for the team event and participated in the training the day before the event. He won the silver medal in the team event (large hill/4x5km), starting out from third position after the ski jumping part. Team members were Manuel Faisst, Julian Schmid, and normal hill/10km gold medallist Vinzenz Geiger.

Beijing 2022 were his fourth appearance in Olympic Winter Games. He has won medals in all his participations in Olympic Winter Games.

At Vancouver 2010, he finished third in the team event. At Sochi 2014, he won the gold medal in the individual normal hill/10km, and silver in team.

PyeongChang 2018 was his most successful Games so far with gold medals in the team and the normal hill/10km individual, becoming the third athlete to successfully defend his Olympic title in the event after Ulrich Wehling (GDR) and Johan Groettumsbraten (NOR). Also won a silver in the large hill/10km.

In Beijing, he won his seventh Olympic medal, equalling Felix Gottwald (AUT), for the most ever in Nordic combined.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
In eight participations between 2007 and 2021, he won 17 medals, seven of them in gold. Has won the normal hill/10km once (2011), the large hill/10km twice (2013, 2019), and four in team (2015, sprint and team in 2017, and 2019).

At the Junior World Championships, he won one gold (normal hill/5km) and one silver medal (team) in 2007.

WORLD CUP
Since his World Cup debut in 2007, he has 83 podium finishes and 43 wins. Between 2013 and 2017, he won the overall World Cup in five consecutive years.

2017 was his most successful season with 18 podium results. In the all-time list of World Cup wins, he ranks second, standing at 43, after Hannu Manninen (FIN), who won 48 times in his career.

In 2021/22, he finished on the podium in four individual events, as well as one fourth-place finish. His season-best result is second in Ruka. He is currently ranked fifth in the overall World Cup.
