Took up luge in 2002 after watching the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City with his father. "We were flipping through channels and luge was on and for some reason, we thought it was cool and were just infatuated by it. So naturally, we went out in the backyard, built a little hill next to the barn and we went sledding. That wasn't fast enough, so we took the garden hose out and iced it down, and that wasn't fast enough. So then we came up with the hair-brained idea to make our own track. USA Luge heard about this crazy thing in our backyard and they came to check it out and said I should try the real thing. So when I was nine years old, we went up to Lake Placid and that's where I took my first run and that's where I fell in love with it." (Info 2018)

"I was always kind of a speed demon when I was a kid. Sledding wasn't fast enough; I thought luge was really cool." (newstimes.com, 1 Feb 2018)

"You’re kinda in the zone when you’re going down the track but as soon as you’re down with it you look back and you’re like 'holy crap' what did I just do? That’s when the adrenaline hits you, it’s a lot of fun." (12news.com, 19 Dec 2017)

General Interest

NO. 1 FAN IS DAD
Prior to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, his father Brett put out a public plea on live TV for his "shy", "very single" son. Overnight, Tucker's Facebook following more than doubled, and he was inundated with thousands of messages, as well as a few marriage proposals. His dad also distributed 750 'Team Tucker' shirts at his own expense before the Games, as well as an additional 2000 shirts and 200 yard signs in 2018 when Tucker made his second Olympic team. His Twitter bio reads "Tucker's Dad", owns the car license plates "LUGE" and "LUGE DAD".

"I'm just so proud of him. Every parent is so proud of their children when they succeed at something. Tucker's really succeeded." (today.com, 12 Feb. 2014; dailymail.co.uk, 11 Feb 2014; nbcnewyork.com, 8 Feb. 2018; newstimes.com, 28 Feb 2018; nbcnewyork.com, 11 Feb 2014)
