Brother Juris Sics (Luge): Three-time Olympic medallist from four participations, winning doubles silver at Vancouver 2010 followed by bronze at Sochi 2014. Nine-time World Championship medallist, with three silver and six bronze, including three medals from 2021. Three-time European champion, winning the doubles in 2021, with 12 additional minor medals.

As children, he and his brother Juris lived near the Sigulda luge track in Latvia. "At first it was just a place for us to play around. We used to try to conquer the track using different sliding methods until one day the track guard caught us and put us in the hands of a qualified coach." (Info 2018)
