General Interest

BIG SHOES TO FILL
After the retirement of Tatjana Hufner (GER) and the pregnancies of teammates Natalie Geisenberger and Dajana Eitberger - both Olympic medallists - Taubitz, at age 23, was suddenly the senior member of a new-look German team for the 2019/20 season. She rose to the occasion with three World Cup titles in singles and two in sprint, finishing atop the season rankings in both disciplines. (freiepresse.de, 18 Nov 2019)

BEIJING TEST RUN
Was part of the delegation to test the National Sliding Centre for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games in October 2020. "I am one of the few athletes who knows this track. It suits me very well too." (mdr.de, 21 Feb 2021)

DOING HER PART
Spent the 2020 off season contributing to the global fight against Covid-19 by sewing face masks for friends and fans. (blick.de, 24 June 2020)

Milestones

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Eighth all-time most successful female luger with three gold and four silver medals, and second among all active lugers behind Natalie Geisenberger (GER). Has placed in the top two in every race since 2019, except the 2020 sprint, where she finished fourth (highest placed German), 0.017 seconds behind Eliza Tiruma (LAT).

Third-consecutive luger to win both the singles and sprint at the same championship in 2021 (Koenigssee), and was part of a dominant German team that took the top four places in both events.

Has six junior medals, including double gold at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Winterberg, and U23 singles gold in 2019 (Winterberg).

WORLD CUP
Broke teammate Natalie Geisenberger's seven-year overall World Cup title stretch in 2019/20, becoming only the third woman in 13 seasons to win the award, after Geisenberger missed the season on maternity leave. Appeared on the podium in seven out of nine races, with two more fourth-place finishes.

Taubitz was edged by Madeleine Egle (AUT) in the 2021/22 singles season standings by two points, but bested the Austrian in the sprint to win the combined women's standings.

Started the 2018/19 season with nine consecutive podiums, including recording her first World Cup win in Calgary, defeating Geisenberger after finishing second to her in the previous three races.
