General Interest

PARTNER
Has competed with partner Toni Eggert since 2010/11. The pair found success early, recording three third-place finishes in World Cup races that year, and placed fourth overall in the season standings.

MUSICAL SIDE GIG
Founded the bands "Unkreativ" and "Plexic". While on the junior national team, wrote and performed "Adrenaline", the official song of the 2008 World Championships in Oberhof, reaching 36th on the German charts. In 2018, the song was re-released and served as the unofficial anthem for Team Germany. (ksk-mbteg.de, 14 Feb 2018; blid.de, 20 Jan 2018)

SPECIAL DAY
At the 2019 World Championships in Winterberg, he and partner Eggert narrowly defeated the other German team of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt to successfully defend their world title. In between the flowers presentation and the medal ceremony, he received the news that his wife had given birth to a son, Jonatan. (saechsische.de, 1 Feb 2019; FIL Magazine, May 2019)

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Two-time Olympic medallist in doubles, winning silver at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games after taking the bronze medal at PyeongChang 2018.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
First luger to win four consecutive World Championship doubles titles (2017-2021), along with partner Toni Eggert. Surpassed teammates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt's record of three (2013-2016), after defeating the duo in 2021 (Koenigssee).

Second most successful doubles pairing with eight gold and 15 medals in total, sitting behind Wendl and Arlt with nine and 16 respectively. Also, sit fifth all-time, behind fellow German's Felix Loch (13 gold, 19 total) and Georg Hackl (10 gold, 22 total).

Dual Junior World Championship medallist in singles, winning silver in 2009 (Nagano) and bronze in 2010 (Innsbruck), after finishing sixth in the previous two championships.

WORLD CUP
Third most successful doubles pairing with five overall season titles, behind Italians Norbert Huber and Hansjorg Raffl (8) and Germans Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch (6).

Recorded their first World Cup podium in January 2011 during their first season, finishing third in Oberhof. Had their first win 364 days later in Oberhof, qualifying for the team relay, where they won their first relay title by 1.293 seconds.

Went on to win the Oberhof doubles the next two seasons (their only win each season), defeating teammates and rivals Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt on each occasion. After finishing second behind Wendl and Arlt the next three years, they again defeated their rivals in 2018 by 0.007 seconds. With another second to Wendl and Arlt in 2019, they returned to the top of the Oberhof podium in 2021.

The 2017/18 season was their most successful winning 10 of 13 World Cup doubles races and finishing second in another two. Including relays, they only missed the podium once in all competitions that season, after not finishing during the Lillehammer sprint.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Second most successful partnership with five European titles, behind Wendl and Arlt, who also have five titles, but more minor medals. However, the pair have not reached the podium since 2019, after finishing second in the doubles, and last stood atop the podium in 2018 (doubles).
