OLYMPIC UPSET
Nearly missed selection for the Austrian team competing at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Needing a sixth-place finish in the final World Cup qualifying race at Lillehammer, he placed sixth before defeating his brother and Armin Frauscher in an internal qualification for the final spot.

After posting the fastest time in the first run, he was sitting second after three, 0.212 seconds behind two-time defending champion Felix Loch (GER), but a mistake from the German elevated Gleirscher to gold and his first podium finish in senior competition. Four-time World Championship medallist, including winning three in 2021 (Koenigssee). Won team relay gold in Koenigsee, after winning singles bronze the previous day, and sprint bronze the day before, where he finished 0.001 seconds behind Russian Semen Pavlichenko, a year after losing to another Russian, Roman Repilov, by 0.006 seconds to claim silver.

One individual World Cup win in seven seasons, claiming the Altenberg singles title in January 2020, adding his only team relay victory a week later in Lillehammer. All eight World Cup podiums in the past three seasons with his first in December 2018 in Calgary (singles).
