General Interest

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Competed at every Olympic Winter Games since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, debuting at Lillehammer 1994.

Their best result came at Vancouver 2010, where the team captained by Zdeno Chara upset Sweden in the quarterfinals 4-3. Despite two late goals, they lost 3-2 to Canada in the semifinals, before losing to 5-3 to Finland in the bronze medal match.

At PyeongChang 2018, they finished 11th for the second consecutive Games, scoring their only victory against eventual gold medallists Olympic Athletes from Russia 3-2, thanks to a third-period winner from Peter Ceresnak. They went on to lose 5-1 to the United States in the qualification playoffs.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Four-time medallists, Slovakia had their greatest success in the early 2000s under captain Miroslav Satan, including their first medal in 2000 (silver) and their only title in 2002. The team backed up their victory with bronze in 2003 and a fourth-place in 2004.

Finished eighth in the 2021 World Championships in Riga, reaching the quarterfinals, before losing 6-1 against the United States.

QUALIFICATION
After defeating Austria and Poland in the first two matches of the Group D Olympic Qualification Tournament in Bratislava, they defeated Belarus 2-1 in the final match after Libor Hudacek (SVK) scored the game-winner with 2:17 remaining.

Qualified for Beijing 2022 after finishing first in Group D qualification seeding.
