Took up the sport soon after her family moved from Northern California to Wisconsin at age five. Her brother signed up for hockey and she decided it looked like fun. After getting a chance to play goalie at six, she was hooked on the sport and the position. She had to play on boys' teams — at one point coached by her future father-in-law with her future husband as a teammate - until she went to the University of Wisconsin in 2010.
