General Interest

BEHIND THE BENCH
Started coaching after university, rather than seeking a professional playing career. “I think I’m a much better coach than I ever was a player. I have a good mind for the game. A big chunk of my career was in junior A and that has prepared me as much as anything. You have to do more than the everyday things that coaches do: the off-ice component, the community involvement, sponsorship. Those are things I’ve gained experience from working the junior leagues.” (cscatlantic.ca, 12 Feb 2018)

A MOTHER’S SACRIFICE
Raised by a single mother, money was always tight, but she worked hard to ensure he was fed, clothed and able to play hockey. Did not play in brand new skates until university. “My mother managed to find enough money to register me in the local minor hockey association. My mother worked hard to make sure I had all the sponsors. It was the local gas stations and local corner stores that were donating money so I could play. My mother found it kind of funny that I was able to make a living at hockey, something that money almost kept me out of.” (pictouadvocate.com, 14 Feb 2018)
