2018: Torn rotator cuff missing the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
May 2016: Fractured his skull, ribs, an eye socket, jaw and neck in a car accident. Had two major surgeries, including one to put a titanium plate in his skull. Doctors didn’t know if he would walk out of the hospital, let alone ski. After his recovery, went back to competition and in 2017 in Seiser Alm, won his first career slopestyle World Cup, just eight months later.
2014
At a young age he was skiing in Vermont and California (Lake Tahoe) before moving to Park City, Utah, where he constantly watched elite freestyle skiers perform high-flying tricks on the slopes. Made the rookie team in 2013 at age 15, and in 2014, he twice reached the podium at USA nationals (slopestyle, halfpipe). (newschoolers.com; apnews.com, 31 Jan 2021)

Made his World Championship debut in 2015, and won a silver medal in freeski slopestyle in 2021.
His first World Cup podium was a victory in 2017 in Seiser Alm, eight months after his car accident, where he suffered a fractured skull. Had two World Cup victories a week apart in 2021 (20 and 27 March).
First rookie in history to win two gold medals at a Winter X Games (Aspen 2020 ski slopestyle and knuckle huck).
First rookie to win Ski Slopestyle (entering Aspen 2020, of the 19 ski slopestyle competitions had been contested since 2002, and not a single victory went to a rookie).
