Started skiing in 2002 at age six in the Nancy Greene ski program (named after 1968 Olympic giant slalom champion). By 2007, he became hooked on freestyle skiing and was competing in local events by 2009, and despite coming in dead last in every competition, he was more determined than ever to improve. His father opened a ski school, Podium of Life Snow Sports Academy at Mount Washington (on Vancouver Island), where he did academics in the morning and skied in the afternoons, so at that time he was coached by his dad, Shane. He and his brother and friends would spend hours building jumps and rails, which has helped him develop his own style of skiing.(freestylecanada.ski, olympic.ca; saanichnews.com, 12 Feb 2018)

GETTING LUCKY AT THE BEIJING 2022 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES VENUE
In the 2019 World Cup in Beijing, he nailed a switch 1800 with a backwards takeoff and five rotations, for the first time in his career, finishing second. "I was the first to drop in the heat so I had my game plan, what I wanted to do, and landed my first jump, all good, keep going. Then in my second jump, I kind of got stressed out in my own head, and I decided to do a different trick that I hadn’t trained at all, which was really dumb because I screwed it up, got a 40-point score. Then I needed to land something big in the end and decided to go for it, and try the 1800, and it worked out for me. So I’m stoked on that, but kind of had bad planning throughout the contest, but I got lucky." (olympic.ca, 14 Dec 2019)

CANADA WINTER GAMES
Won gold medals in slopestyle and big air at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC.

A WINTER OLYMPIC DREAM FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND
Growing up on Mount Washington on Vancouver Island (better known for producing summer Olympians), he often flew under the provincial/national team development radar. His father Shane: “Because we were on the Island, he was never really given a huge look by the organizations that pull kids up and get them to the Canadian level. In Grade 8, he said ‘I want to be the best skier in the world,’ and then last year he won a world cup." (saanichnews.com, 12 Feb 2018)

PODIUM OF LIFE SKI ACADEMY
His parents started the in-school academy in 2010 with the intent to give kids an opportunity to get credits towards their passion sports. Dad Shane is the freestyle coach, and mom Corey is the racing coach. The program is now online and helps athletes involved in a variety of sports. (campbellrivermirror.com, 16 Feb 2018)
