Started freestyle skiing at age eight but often had to be bribed by her older sisters with chocolate to do the moguls "one more time". Watching her older sister Chloe compete at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games made her realize that she wanted to become an Olympian too. She fell a lot in her first competition and was crying when she crossed the finish line, but it was because she was happy to be competing. (freestylecanada.ski, olympic.ca)

Followed her older sisters into the sport. "When you're the youngest, you just want to follow your older sisters, because you think they're so cool and so beautiful, so I did. I saw my sisters in the World Cup and I watched Chloe in Vancouver [2010]. I decided I wanted to train hard. I have always been a competitive tiger - I take after my dad." (bbc.com)

"I change my lucky outfit every year. I used to think my wolf T-shirt was lucky as I had good results so I kept wearing it, but the year after I had it on , I fell. So I said, 'ok the lucky clothes are good for only one year' so I change every year." (skicanada.org)

General Interest

SISTER STRENGTH
Their strength is to support, be there, and push each other when they need it. "That is one of the greater strengths of being sisters. We are very truthful with each other. We are going to say the truth even if sometimes it hurts. I would rather hear it from my sisters, and I think sometimes those hard conversations are not easy to have with other people. We have learned to use it as a strength to always move forward." (closeupculture.com)

FAMILY TRIANGLE
Her parents consulted a psychologist to ensure that all the girls are treated equally, as first and foremost they are sisters. Sometimes they fall out but are mature enough to handle themselves. Mother, Johane (also their agent), "I have always told them they are like a triangle. All three angles have to be equal to be a stable triangle." (bbcsport.com, Feb 2014)

FAMILY BUSINESS
With her sister, she has a sportswear company that specialises in knit-base layers.

MOTHER'S ILLNESS
A month before the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the girls revealed that their mother Johane had been battling cancer (now in remission), keeping it a secret for more than a year. They decided to reveal this publicly to relieve themselves of the weight on their shoulders. When teammate Max Parrott revealed he was fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma and would end his 2018/19 season to devote his time and energy to fighting cancer, she was there to offer encouragement. “If my mother beat it, I have no doubt that Maxence will win his fight too.” (journalmetro.com, 18 Jan 2018)

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
At Sochi 2014 she made her Olympic Winter Games debut, competing alongside her two sisters. Winning moguls gold, she shared the podium with sister Chloe (silver), and together they sang the Canadian national anthem on the podium. At 19 years 318 days, she became the youngest athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in freestyle moguls. Along with her eldest sister Maxime, they became just the third trio of sisters to compete in the same individual event at the Olympic Winter Games. (olympic.ca)

At PyeongChang 2018, in the middle of a snowstorm, she won the second Olympic medal of her career (moguls silver). There was a nine-hundredths gap that separated her from a second consecutive gold medal - which would’ve tied her with Canada's Alexandre Bilodeau as the only ones to have successfully defended an Olympic moguls title (2010-2014). "I’m prouder of this medal than gold in Sochi because I worked even harder to get there. This was one of the most difficult years of my life, so no, I don’t want to be disappointed." (Canadian Press, 11 Feb 2018)

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
2015 World Championships gold medallist gaining the rare status of Olympic and World champion at the same time. Finished ahead of silver medallist Hannah Kearney (USA) who was the bronze medallist behind Justine and her sister Chloe at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

WORLD CUP
World Cup runner-up in the overall standings five times. Earned her 49th career World Cup podium in Deer Valley on 8 February 2020 (dual moguls).

YOUNGEST
Youngest to join the national team at the age of 16.
Youngest to win a World Cup event in her third competition (dual moguls in 2011 in Mont-Gabriel).
