At the age of nine her family moved to Comox, British Columbia when her father got a job at Mount Washington Alpine Resort on Vancouver Island. Her parents put her and her brothers in ski school. "We just kind of organically kept going up with them every weekend. They put us in ski school and we eventually broke away from ski school and just started going to train at the training park." (cbc.ca, 7 Feb 2019)

:

After starting to ski at Mount Washington Alpine Resort, once a halfpipe was constructed at the resort, she won the first competition held there.

:

Known to practice/train a lot. "So much to the point that I'm like 'I don't want to anymore, I want to have fun.' But it is fun for me. My job is my favourite thing to do." (cbc.ca, 7 Feb 2019)

:

Proud of her winning run at the 2017 World Cup Finals in France. "At the top I knew that I had won and I thought about just doing a straight air lap but that's not me. So I buckled down and became the first woman to land a switch cork 7 in competition and upped my own score! I’m very proud of that moment." (cbc.ca, 7 Feb 2019)

:

Freestyle skier Sarah Burke (CAN): 2005 World halfpipe and five-time Winter X Games superpipe champion, and a pioneer in the sport, who tragically died after a training accident in Park City, UT. (Athlete, May 2021)

:

Her mother, and without her support she doesn't know where she would be. "Travelling and competing and pursuing this kind of career is super difficult to maintain friendships back at home especially at the time when I was in high school. My mom was kind of that person for me at the time, and I think having that was so important." (cbc.ca, 7 Feb 2019)

:

Halfpipe Crystal Globe winner (2018, 2019)

General Interest

COVID-19
During the COVID-19 lockdown, she spent more time at home than she had in eight years. Along with her fiance Justin, they explored their immediate surroundings, going camping, hiking, biking, jet skiing, and just enjoyed being home. "I think after the Olympics [2018] it was challenging for me to go out and ski for fun because I had dedicated so much of myself to it. It was very physically demanding but also became difficult mentally to turn the competition and training switch off. I hit a bit of a wall and honestly just didn’t want to. I think after not having access to it for however many months, it reminded me of how fun it can be, and really has reignited my appreciation for it." (newschoolers.com, Jan 2021)

FAMILY AFFAIR
Grew up in the sport with her brother Darcy, travelling the world together for competitions: "Darcy and I are best buddies, when he was 15 years old, he kind of went off with his group of friends and I wasn't cool enough to hang with him, but now we have reconnected and yes, I'm cool enough." (Monster Energy YouTube, Jan 2021)

COACH OLYMPIAN
Coach Trennon Paynter represented Australia at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games (23rd in the moguls) and competed at two World Championships (1999, 2001).

GOING TO HOLLYWOOD
After winning the gold medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, she was invited to the Golden Globes in California (USA): "It was so out of my element and completely not my scene. It was pretty cool just to experience Hollywood. It makes you feel pretty small, It was really fun to meet some of those celebrities and wear a pink power suit that I would have never worn on a normal day." (cbc.ca, 7 Feb 2019)

HOME PURCHASE
Bought a house in Squamish, British Columbia in April 2021 with her fiance, retired freestyle skier Justin Dorey. (Facebook, 7 Apr 2021)
