:

Parents introduced him to skis at age three, discovering halfpipe at 14 when he started going to the Canada Olympic Park, near his home in Calgary, Alberta. Started competing in freeskiing events, thinking that he would never be able to compete at the Olympic Winter Games because it wasn't on the Olympic programme. In 2011, ski halfpipe was added as one of the Olympic official sports. (redbull.com)

He's always been drawn to anything that involved flipping and doing air time, and was doing gymnastics at a young age: "I started out snowboarding actually, and skiing felt right, so I stuck with it." (redbull.com)

General Interest

MUSIC
Music plays a big role in his life. He plays guitar, writes a little of his own music, and started learning the piano.
Some of his favourite artists are Shakey Graves, Andy Shauf, Mac Demarco, and Rayland Baxter. (redbull.com)

ALLERGY
Used to have an allergy to cold temperatures called Cold Urticaria, first noticing symptoms at age 17 after jumping in a cold lake and having an anaphylactic reaction. "My throat swelled up. I went completely blind and lost my energy for a little while. I knew it wouldn't stop me from skiing. The doctors said I would have to stop, but I knew I could cover up or find some way around the direct contact with the cold. It just faded away and I am not affected by it anymore." (Info 2018)

MOVIE INSPIRATION
"As soon as I saw my first ski movie I thought it would be so cool to be able to ski every day. I just decided I would do everything I could to be a professional skier, so that I could travel the world having fun on my skis." (redbull.ca, 12 Dec 2012)
