General Interest

OLYMPIC QUALIFYING
Was nominated to the 2022 European Championship even though he ranked fourth at the 2022 National Championship. Came fifth at Europeans and was the lowest ranked Russian man. Was not named to the Olympic team initially but then replaced Mikhail Kolyada, who had tested positive for COVID-19.

BREAKTHROUGH
Hampered by injuries, he did not compete much internationally until 2020. In February 2021, he won the Russian Cup Final that served as a national qualifying event for the second spot at the 2021 World Championships and was sent to Stockholm to the surprise of many. “I read positive, but also many negative comments on Instagram. I qualified honestly; it was fair. I deserved this trip to the World Championships.” (goldenskate.com, 6 May 2021)

He placed eighth and helped to secure the option to secure a third Beijing 2022 Olympic spot for the ROC men.

STUDYING AND SKATING
Graduated with honours from high school in 2021 and started studying medicine at the Pavlov First State Medical University of St. Petersburg in fall 2021. "I always wanted to pay attention to skating and studying. It worked quite well in school and I hope I will have the same success in combining med school and figure skating." (Athlete, 31 Oct 2021)

LEGENDARY COACH
Has been coached by legendary coaches Tatiana and Alexei Mishin since he was eight years old.
