:

Took up skating with her twin sister, Melyssa, while living in the United States of America, after watching the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. "Every winter, for Christmas, our parents took us ice skating, public skating, because my mom used to do a little bit of synchro skating and my two uncles are hockey players. (...) My sister just saw some people doing some tricks and she decided that she wanted to do figure skating. Since we were doing everything together, they signed us both up. We were 10. We progressed really quickly." (Athlete, Apr 2015)

:

She and her partner train in Montreal, QC.

:

Winning the European title in 2019.

:

Figure skater Surya Bonaly (FRA), three-time Olympian (1992, 1994, 1998), three-time World Championships silver medallist.

“When I was figure skating I can't say I had a role model other than Michelle Kwan [USA], because she was the person I watched. What I do respect about Surya is being the only black figure skater at that time. I can't say my life would be so easy without her having gone through so much before me. She is an idol for her persistence and determination and going through solitude as the only black woman and being discriminated against. She deserved gold medals, but was only given silver; she made my figure skating career easier. It's an honour to travel, motivate and inspire people all over the world.” (royalgazette.com, 1 May 2019)

:

“My dad told me, ‘Don't give them the benefit of the doubt; you have to be 10 times better than anyone else in order to succeed'. That's always been my drive. I think I'm bringing a different dimension to the sport because of my colour." (royalgazette.com, 1 May 2019)

FROM SINGLES TO PAIRS
Competed in single skating representing Great Britain as her family lived in Bermuda and she holds British citizenship. "I was good in practice in single skating, but I was too nervous in competition. I used to skate with Alexei Mishin and I was working on triple Axels, but when I got to competition I would freeze and I couldn’t do anything." Almost retired following a 27th place finish at the 2007 World Junior Championships, but kept going and switched to pair skating. (Athlete, Apr 2015).

ACTIVIST
Joined the Diversity and Inclusion Alliance to promote more diversity in the sport of figure skating. (ifsmagazine.com, 8 Aug 2020)

INTERNATIONAL BACKGROUND
Was born in Canada "by accident" as her Canadian mother visited her family while pregnant, and she and her twin sister were born early. The family lived in Bermuda until she was 10, but moved to the United States of America, first to North Carolina and then Virginia when her father started working in Washington. She holds permanent residency in the United States and because of her Bermuda ties through her father, holds British citizenship and became a French citizen in December 2009. Represented first Great Britain, and then France, and now Canada in competition. (royalgazette.com, 1 May 2019; Athlete, Apr 2015)
