Her mother, a figure skater still doing synchro until 2000, told her that she had to learn how to skate. "I hated it so much that I never wanted to go back. My mom told me that once I actually learned how to skate, she would grant me my wish of never skating again. I guess sometime between my first day and that blessed day when I could actually stand up, I fell in love." (skateontario.org, Dec 2019)

She couldn't get enough skating once she fell in love with the sport, telling her parents at age seven that she was going to go to the Olympics. They tried to lovingly inform me that very few people actually get to go there, but if I tried my best, that would be enough. Without missing a beat I responded with, 'someone has to go. Why can’t it be me?'" (skateontario.org, Dec 2019)

SUCCESS WITH FORMER PARTNER MOSCOVITCH
Competed with Dylan Moscovitch 2009-14. They won the silver medal in the team event at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games and ranked as high as fourth at the 2014 World Championships.

PARTNERSHIP WITH MARINARO
When her partnership with Moscovitch ended, she teamed up with Marinaro following the 2013/14 season. “The beginning years of our partnership were very difficult for a number of reasons. We weren’t jelling as we wanted to or as much as people thought we should." (IFS Magazine.com, 24 Oct 2018)

THE BANK OF MOM
Not only did her mother insist she at least learn to skate, when the expenses started to rise, her income from her job as manager of finance at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village was used solely to support Kirsten’s skating career. When Kirsten was receiving her silver medal at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, her dad turned to her mom and thanked her. Her mom saying, "He thanked me for believing in her enough for the both of us, but I would live in a cardboard box if I had to.” (bpsportsniagara.com, 27 Jan 2018)
