2005 in Toronto. His parents wanted him to be super-busy as a kid. So they put him in swimming, gymnastics, and a learn-to-skate type program. One of the coaches suggested he should try figure skating and he was attracted to the sport because it involved music. "Once I started skating, I never even tried hockey afterward." (skateontario.org, 27 May 2021; Athlete, 24 Sep 2021)

General Interest

YOUTUBER
Started his YouTube channel in 2016 and has more than 20 000 subscribers. "I felt it was a really good way to connect with people across the whole world." (Athlete, 24 Sep 2021)

UKRAINIAN HERITAGE
His mother is from L’viv, and his dad is from Ivano-Frankivs’k. They emigrated from Ukraine to Canada. "At home, my parents always spoke Ukrainian, so that’s the language I picked up. I can’t really speak Russian. I can pick up on words, and understand a lot of it. But to actually communicate, it’s really difficult. (skateontario.org, 27 May 2021, Athlete, 24 Sep 2021)

TALL SKATER
At 184 cm (6'1"), he is one of the tallest single skaters currently competing. "Although sometimes it may be discouraging, it is 100% manageable if you have the right attitude towards it. I know it sounds super cliche, but it’s true... my choreography and overall skating also took a hit from my newly gained height. Extensions, lines, and general body awareness were out of whack." (skateontario.org, 27 May 2021)

ACCOMPLISHED COACH
Coach Gregor (originally: Grzegorz) Filipowski competed for Poland and is the 1989 world bronze medallist and two-time European medallist.
