General Interest

FROM UKRAINE TO ISRAEL
Competed for Ukraine until 2010, then for Israel after obtaining citizenship through his Jewish mother. "I didn't see any future for me [in Ukraine]. There was no support. So I started to represent Israel because my coach in Ukraine at the time, Galina Kukhar, turned to the president of the Israeli federation, Boris Chait, and asked him to give me the chance to skate. She knew that I really wanted to skate and wanted to go to Europeans, Worlds, and the Olympic Games." (goldenskate.com, 12 Mar 2016)

TRAINING IN USA
He, like all Olympic-level Israeli skaters, moved elsewhere to practice. The regulation-size rink at Canada Center in Metula, Israel doesn’t have the capacity to allow elite figure skaters adequate training time on the ice. Hackensack, New Jersey (USA) is a prime location for Israeli skating hopefuls. “I miss Israel but I have no choice — I need this rink for the practicing time and the coaches in order to prepare properly." (israel21c.org, 9 Jan 2018)

RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
Following the 2017/18 Olympic season, he thought about retirement and stopped skating for three months, but came back. "I just recognised to be on the ice and to keep skating makes me feel much younger and happy." (figureskating-online.com, 1 Oct 2019)
