General Interest

Russian men have competed in one previous Olympic Winter Games, as hosts at Sochi 2014 (3-6). They will be competing at Beijing 2022 as the Russian Olympic Committee.

At World Championships, RCF (Russian Curling Federation) finished the 2021 round-robin in Calgary a surprising 11-2, tied with Sweden. The team, skipped by Sergey Glukhov, went on to lose the semi-final 5-3 to Scotland’s Bruce Mouat and the bronze medal game 6-5 to Switzerland’s Peter de Cruz to finish fourth, tied for the nation’s strongest finish in men’s championship play. In the seven previous World Championship competing as Russian Federation, the country’s best finish was two ninth-place rankings (2018, 2019).

This season, Team Glukhov is 25-10 with a recent victory at the World Qualification Event in Lohja (6-1) and a runner-up finish at the European B-Division Championships in Lillehammer (8-1). The team also placed fifth at two World Curling Tour events in Champery and Bern.

ROC is 7-17 in head-to-head matchups against the field in Beijing. This includes a 1-1 record against Canada (at the same event, the China Open in 2018), a 1-4 mark versus Great Britain, a 2-3 record against Italy, a 1-1 mark versus both Norway and USA, and a combined 0-6 against Sweden and Switzerland (0-3 each).

World Ranking: 10th (29.325 pts)
