General Interest

AUSSIE COACH
Like his father, who coached the Australian men’s team during the late-2000s, Morris has coached Australia’s mixed doubles pairing, Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt this season, and was there celebrating when they won their Olympic berth in December. The Aussies have lived near and trained with Morris in Camrose, AB, since September 2021. “That will be my most difficult game in Beijing. I have trouble playing against who I have a lot of respect for, and it’s hard for me to get that killer instinct with really good friends.” (si.com, 27 Jan 2022)

FAMILY FRIENDS
Morris first met Homan when he was young – and she was a toddler. “I used to play with Rachel’s brother in Little Rocks. We played out of the RCMP Curling Club and Rachel was a rink rat around there. We were 10 or 12 years old. Rachel was running around and didn’t want anything to do with a curling rink back then. I think she was one or two when I met her and we’ve been family friends ever since.” (cbc.ca, 13 January 2022)

ROLE MODEL
Served as an Athlete Role Model at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games.

LANGUAGE PLEASE
Tries to resist cursing during games. “Sometimes I cover the microphone with my hand. Other times, I say frick or some kind of creative word. I’ve gotten a few fines in my day, just like all of us have. But I think that’s one of the reasons people like watching curling. I’m not saying swearing is great. But one great thing about curling is we’re mic’d up. People like hearing human emotion to great shots and missed shots. And if you had a microphone on hockey players or ballplayers, we would be considered saints compared to some of them who swear every second word.” (nationalpost.com, 1 Mar 2016)

CHARITY
Long-time charitable supporter and fundraiser of Big Brothers and Sisters of Calgary.

AUTHOR
Co-authored the 2009 book “Fit to Curl” which celebrates the art of brushing and details training regimens for curling.
