Cousin Alexey Stukalskiy (Curling): Sochi 2014 Russian Olympian, finishing seventh in the men's tournament. Four World Championship appearances (2013-15, 2017). Competed at nine European Championships from 2008-16, finishing a career-best fourth in 2016, losing to Peter de Cruz (SUI) in the bronze medal game. Silver medallist at the 2015 Winter Universiade.

2015: Lower back problems, requiring spinal implant surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation. Has to perform advanced warmups before each training session and game.
After she quit figure skating at age 13, her mother decided she needed a new sport to stay active. Her cousin Alexey invited her to try curling, and soon she was travelling two hours each way to curl every night in Moscow. (Athlete, 19 Oct 2021)

With teammates split between three cities, she mostly trains individually. Trains for two hours on ice in the morning followed by a gym workout before lunch. Team training camps are arranged before major tournaments.

Figure skater Evgeni Plushenko (RUS), two-time Olympic gold medallist and three-time world champion. “I always felt similar to him because of the back surgery. I thought if he could skate after those surgeries then I definitely can curl.” (Athlete, 19 Oct 2021)
