General Interest

PARTNER
Met his wife and curling partner Zuzana at a curling tournament, when they played on opposing four-player teams. They chose their current apartment based on location (their curling centre is 10 minutes away and his workplace another 10 minutes). Has played the mixed doubles discipline for 11 years, deciding to focus as a team in 2018, at the conclusion of the PyeongChang Olympic cycle.

INJURY SCARE
Stopped playing recreational football because of the risk of injury. Has not played in three years.

METICULOUS
“It helps me a little that I’m a meticulous person and I like to have everything precisely planned and analyzed. So I would say that I transfer part of my approach at work to my sports career.”
(kariera.csas.cz, 26 Jan 2021)

COVID-19
Grew a handlebar moustache during the pandemic lockdown and kept it until they won their spot at Beijing 2022, whereupon it was shaved off the next morning. His wife Zuzana said, “342 days. I could not stand it. I was hoping he will be reasonable and shave it even if we didn’t qualify. I’m glad I didn’t have to push him.” (Zuzana Paulova, 26 June 2021)

MOUSTACHE UPDATE
“Unfortunately, I did not grow another one for Beijing. It would have vast impacts to my marriage.” (Athlete, 1 Oct 2021)
