Was born and raised in the mountains around Grenoble, France, and as soon as he was old enough to stand, he was put on skis by his parents. His older brothers preferred snowboarding, but he chose cross-country skiing. By age nine he was racing, then was skiing the French circuit, until he joined the British team at age 16.
