Grew up in Gressoney, a little village amongst the Alps in Italy. Began cross-country skiing at age nine. (Athlete, Jun 2021)
Switched from alpine skiing to cross-country skiing because it was already too competitive. Cross-country skiing was calmer and still a playground and he was very encouraged because he was quite successful in the first small races. (Athlete, Jun 2021)

In May 2021, along with his teammate Federico Pellegrino, he joined the Russian training group of their common national trainer Markus Cramer. The Russian and the Italian Federations signed a contract in order to exchange experiences and new ideas so athletes of both countries are training together during summer and fall 2021. The goal is to have the best possible preparation for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games for the athletes of both countries.
