2013 World Cup in Lillehammer (15km - 37th)

:

Took up the sport competitively in 2006 in his home town of Meraker, Norway, which has been home to many famous cross-country skiers, and spending time at the local ski club was a fun free time activity for him and his brothers. (nrk.no, Feb 2021)

His father and both brothers were actively involved in the sport and while he was not a youth or junior age talent, he demonstrated his perseverance and grit in keeping up with the teammates and always trying to improve, eventually succeeding. (nrk.no, Feb 2021)

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Made his Olympic Winter Games debut at PyeongChang 2018 where he had two top-10 finishes (eighth in the sprint, 10th in the 50km mass start, both in classic technique).

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Four-time World champion winning three team medals (2019 team sprint with Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo, 2019 and 2021 relay) before he finally won his first individual medal, also gold, in the dramatic 50km race at Oberstdorf 2021 after the disqualification of his teammate Klaebo.

2011 Junior World Championships relay gold medallist (fourth in the sprint).

At the U23 World Championships (2012, 2013), his best result is seventh (2013 skiathlon).

WORLD CUP
Won his first World Cup race, a classic sprint, during the Tour de Ski 2015/16 in Oberstdorf, and his first distance race during the Ski Tour 2016 in Montreal.

Has finished in the top-10 in the overall World Cup four times since the 2015/16 season, sixth being his best season ranking in 2018/19. He was seventh in the distance World Cup in 2019/20 and fourth in the sprint World Cup in 2017/18.
