General Interest

BACK TO THE ROOTS
A farmer's son, he grew up on the family farm with cattle, forest and crops in the village of Riistavesi, Finland, where he used to take his afternoon naps in his father's tractor. He dreams of taking over the farm from his parents after his skiing career. Has his own plot of forest that he tends to. (hs.fi, Jan 2020; Yle.fi, Nov 2020)

TRAINING GROUP
Trains often together as mini training group with Olympic champion Iivo Niskanen, who represents the same ski club, and national team member Ristomatti Hakola in Vuokatti (FIN).

Engages for climate action and advocacy as a Protect Our Winters (POW) ambassador. POW aims to inspire, connect and empower outdoor enthusiasts to work together to achieve effective climate protection.

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Skied the first leg for the 4x10km relay team that finished fourth at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, one second away from the bronze medal.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Finished 17th in the 15km at Oberstdorf 2021, being the top Finnish racer. "At a steadily deadly pace, I tried to stay as fresh as possible until the end. I got the most out of myself. There was no dead moment along the way." (hiihtoliitto.fi)

Won three bronze medals at the 2011 Junior World Championships in Otepaa (two individual, one relay).

WORLD CUP
After several frustrating seasons, the pieces started falling into place in 2019/20 and he finally took the final step towards the top, with a fifth-fastest finish time in the pursuit race at Ruka in a stage World Cup in December 2019, and breaking into the World Cup top-10 in January 2020 (sixth in Nove Mesto in the 15km free).

EUROPEAN YOUTH OLYMPIC FESTIVAL
Won two medals, including a gold in the 10km free race, at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Szczyrk in 2009, as a U-17 racer.
