General Interest

FAILED DRUG TESTS
At the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, tested positive for the heart medication trimetazidine, a banned substance under World Anti-Doping Agency regulations. As part of her settlement with the Court of Arbitration for Sport - which blamed a contaminated product for the positive result - she accepted an eight-month ban and the disqualification of her 12th-place finish in the two-woman bob. The athlete later unsuccessfully sued Russia's Federal Biomedical Agency for issuing her a contaminated sample of the legal supplement methionine. In March 2016, she had also tested positive to meldonium, a substance banned since the beginning of that year. In a decision that WADA later criticised as hasty, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency dismissed her case. She said at the time that she was prescribed the drug at the end of 2015 and was assured it would be out of her system within a few days, prior to the ban taking effect.
