2020
In June 2019, his gridiron team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, released him after he suffered a calf injury. As he rehabbed, his strength and conditioning coach connected him with the Canadian bobsleigh team for a training camp. “I was like, ‘Sure, I’ll give it a try. I don’t know if football will come back into my life or not.'" He re-signed with the Roughriders in July and played the remainder of the 2019 season, but took up bobsleigh training full time with the cancellation of the Canadian Football League in 2020.
He attended pilot school in early 2021 and also appeared in eight games for the Roughriders. (jaydearborn.ca; cjme.com, 20 Jan 2022)
“Bobsleigh is looking for that strong, explosive, fast athlete and that’s exactly what my training has been for football my entire life. It’s nice and they kind of go hand in hand because I don’t feel like I’m ignoring one by training for another. Both of their off-seasons look similar, which allows me to succeed at both.” (cjme.com, 20 Jan 2022)
To compete in both bobsleigh and gridiron for as long as he can. (cjme.com, 20 Jan 2022)
