Lotholz had always dreamed of being an Olympian. Her former teammate at the University of Alberta, Christine De Bruin, had gone on to compete in bobsleigh and suggested she also try the sport. "I watched my friend pushing a bobsleigh, going places all over the world, and I thought if she could do it, maybe I could too." After the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, she attended pilot school. (Info 2018; mellotholz.com)

When she's on her family farm, she utilises equipment around her for her training, including pushing a quad bike and carrying tractor tyres. General Interest

FEMALE FIRST
In January 2016, competed with pilot Kaillie Humphries as part of the first all-female bobsleigh team to compete in a four-man World Cup competition. With teammates Cynthia Appiah and Genevieve Thibault, the team finished 15th in Lake Placid.

FARM HERITAGE
Grew up on her family's 2000-acre farm in Barrhead, AB, which has belonged to her family since her great-grandparents arrived in the country from Germany. “I wish every child could grow up on a farm - endless learning opportunities. I was never worried about getting dirty. I always wanted to do the work, whether it was changing tyres or vaccinating cows, or helping in the barn during calving time. Watching how my parents worked, day after day, tirelessly... I learned diligence and perseverance and work ethic. That’s served me incredibly well.” (calgaryherald.com, 5 Nov 2016)
