When Stones was in his last year of university in 2014, he was inspired to try the sport by watching former Canadian bobsledders Jesse Lumsden and Tim Randall, who trained at his school. "I thought Lumsden had the biggest legs I had ever seen. It’s kind of a running joke in the team now because we say he has toothpicks, but at the time I was like, ‘Yeah, I want sweet legs like that.'" (thebrakeman.org, 18 Aug 2020)

:

"I love that I can push my training limits pretty much all year round. I just love seeing that physical ladder you can climb and not knowing where the ceiling is." (thebrakeman.org, 18 Aug 2020)

Competing at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. “Words don’t - and can’t - ever adequately describe the experience. It really hit me moments before my first run, just how much it meant to wear the maple leaf. Every opportunity I’ve had to wear the Canadian jersey or Canadian uniform, even back to my under-17 debut with Rugby Canada, has been so special to me. When you go through the Opening Ceremony, that’s when I realized just how big this experience was, and that I had a nation of millions back home giving me their unwavering support. It was a humbling and profound honour.” (aedelhard.com, 22 Mar 2019)

:

"It’s better to show up to the race 80 percent fit and 100 percent healthy than 80 percent healthy and 100 percent fit." (olympic.ca)
