Husband Ivo de Bruin (Bobsleigh): Pilot for Netherlands since 2008. His best result is ninth in the team event at the 2017 World Championships in Koenigssee.

Athletics: Competed as a sprinter for the University of Alberta, in Canada.

Summer 2013: Bulged disc in her lower back that turned into sciatica. Battled with this injury for three years, causing her to miss the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Took up the sport at age 22 and started training as a pilot in 2012. (olympic.ca, 2018)

Began to fall out of love with athletics and told her coach she was giving up to focus on her university degree. Her coach thought she had the potential to compete at an Olympic Games - just not in athletics - and convinced her to try out for the Canadian bobsleigh team. "The first run was terrible. Our sled rattled all the way down. I was dizzy and I puked everywhere after the run. I asked myself, 'What am I doing here?' I said I'm never coming back, but the next day I was convinced to keep going." (Info 2018)
