Athletics: Competed for Simon Fraser University prior to taking up bobsleigh. In 2005, set a school record in the 4x100m at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A recruiter invited him to a training camp in 2006 after watching him compete in the 100m for his university. In summer 2010, after three seasons as a brakeman, he attended pilot's school. (Info 2018; olympic.ca, 2018)
Was drawn to the sport as it was a mix of athletics and race car driving. Quickly discovered the sport was a fun and unique challenge that he was willing to pursue a career in.
