"To be honest, sometimes I also wonder why I do this sport. But it is such an incredibly beautiful adrenaline sport. All the speed you take with you comes from pushing and steering as little as possible. I don't need an accelerator to get anything up to speed." (kickes.nl, 25 Jun 2019)

CAREER TRAJECTORY
After two years as a brakewoman with the Netherlands, she was left without a pilot after Marije Van Huigenbosch retired. In the 2015/16 season, she raced with Katrin Beierl (AUT) representing Austria, placing 14th in the two-woman event at the World Championships in Innsbruck. With a foot injury seemingly ending her career, she focused on her studies until the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation announced the introduction of monobob in 2018 - even supplying identical sleds and components - allowing Sleper to again compete for her native Netherlands and on an equal footing with the traditional bobsleigh powerhouses.

With a change in rules to only allow athletes who compete in the two-woman to participate in monobob events, spent the majority of the 2020/21 season as a spurbob (a forerunner descending the track prior to the start of the race), which allowed her more runs than if she was competing. “That was a mind switch. My purpose changed. Instead of performing, it was gaining experience.” Once that rule was repealed in January 2021, she placed third and eighth in the final monobob events. (teamnl.org, 5 Nov 2021; trouw.nl, 21 Nov 2021)

GOING SOLO
She travels mostly alone to the World Cup competitions, simply because she doesn't have a big team around her. Sometimes that is inconvenient because the large and ungainly bobsleigh cannot be unloaded on her own. However, driving a monobob brings her a powerful feeling. "I'm never afraid, not even to crash. Healthy tension, adrenaline, I can feel it. But that's all good. When the two of us were in a bob, I was more afraid of the other person than myself.” (destentor.nl, 9 Sep 2021)
