Wife Christine de Bruin (Bobsleigh): Representing Canada, she finished seventh in the two-woman at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Bronze medallist in the two-woman at the 2019 and 2020 World Championships and 2019/20 World Cup overall bronze medallist.
Athletics: Competed in hurdles and discus at both a national and international level. Multiple-time Dutch champion in the discus and placed 10th at the 2003 European Youth Olympic Festival.

2012 World Cup in Lake Placid (Two-man - 11th)
November 2017: Required eight stitches in his knee after a crash in a training run at Lake Placid.
November 2012: Suffered a concussion that caused him to miss the World Cup event in Whistler.
