“We sprint three times a week. We lift three times a week. We have recovery sessions every single day. We have treatments every single day. We take Sundays off, so, really, it’s grinding six days a week from April to the beginning of the season in September.” (bangordailynews.com, 5 Feb 2018)

General Interest

BACKGROUND
Born in Indiana, United States of America, he spent 16 of his first 18 years living in Southern Germany where his father was stationed at a military base for the U.S. Department of Defense. (teamusa.org, 25 Jan 2016; teamusa.org, 26 May 2017)

OLYMPIC DISAPPOINTMENT
After tearing his hamstring prior to the 2017/18 season, he did not make it back onto the World Cup roster during the Olympic year and was instead named an alternate for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. “I’m not sure what my future holds, but after the Olympics, I am going [to] step away from bobsledding for a while to figure some things out,” he said on social media after already taking some time away from the sport prior to travelling to the Republic of Korea for the Games.

Although he admitted at the time that he was likely to take the next year off, he was back for two North American Cup races in November 2018 and then returned to the World Cup circuit in January 2019, ultimately placing 11th in the four-man at the World Championships. "It came down to the fact that I felt like my story wasn't over yet and I have more to give." (bangordailynews.com, 5 Feb 2018; Instagram, 18 Jun 2018)

RETIREMENT
Will retire after the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. (Instagram, 18 January 2022)
