General Interest

COMEBACK
Took a break from bobsleigh to focus on his career away from sport. Last competed in 2018 and has up over 50 World Cup starts since his 2014 debut. In May 2020, at the age of 30, he announced his comeback with the intention of qualifying for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. "Its been great building up my business career these past couple years, but my athletic career still has some diesel left in it." (Instagram, May 2020)

MENTOR STEVE HOLCOMB
He could not have had a better mentor to teach him the nuances of his new sport than Steve Holcomb (USA), the 2010 Olympic four-man gold medallist and four-time World champion. Holcomb was renowned for his meticulous research of each track. Valdes rode in three World Championships with Holcomb, finishing fifth in 2017. “It was awesome to be in his sled and go back and see the video everything was in the right place." (ocregister.com, 21 Feb 2018)

FEARS
He is terrified of bees. (nbclosangeles.com, 25 Jan 2018)
