Father Peter Salzer (Athletics): In 1975 and 1976, was the German youth champion in shot put, and briefly dabbled in bobsleigh in 1984. Since 1981, he has been a trainer and throwing coach to generations of Olympians and Paralympians, including 2016 Paralympic gold medallist Niko Kappel.

Mother Anke Salzer [nee Koninger] (Athletics): At the German national championships, won the heptathlon in 1984 and was part of the winning 4x100m relay team in 1988. Also won a bronze medal in the sprint relay at the 1979 European Junior Championships.

Athletics: Competed as a thrower, finishing eighth in shot put at the World Junior Championships in 2010. Personal Best: 17.70 in shot put, 65.42 in discus.
