As a brakeman early in his career, placed second in the four-man bob at the World Championships in 1982 crewing for pilot Peter Hell. 2015 World Cup in St. Moritz (Two-man - 5th)
2015
As a child, he tried out nearly every winter sport: Alpine skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined, ice hockey. Was first introduced to bobsleigh as a child by his father and uncle - he attended every race at the nearby track at Koenigssee - but didn't start training until 2011 when he took a beginners' course while studying at university. "At first I took up bobsleigh only as a physical activity to balance my studies. I began training with a club in Berchtesgaden, and was soon integrated into the junior national team because of my performances."
He took over as a pilot full-time in 2015. "I said to myself, 'being that brakeman, that's kind of stupid, I'd rather drive myself.'" (sporthilfe.de, 25 Oct 2017; Info 2018; ktsa.de, 27 Feb 2015)
"I've always been a sports fanatic and an adrenaline junkie." (ispo.com, 17 Jan 2018)
To win an Olympic gold medal. “Since my uncle Rudi came second in Albertville in 1992, I have to win gold, of course, otherwise I have to listen to it all my life." (sporthilfe.de, 25 Oct 2017)
As part of his weight training, he performs single-leg squats with a 100-kilogram load and follows that up with 10m of walking lunges. Completes box jumps up to 1.6m high. (stuttgarter-zeitung.de, 30 Dec. 2018)
