General Interest

POST-OLYMPIC CRASH
After winning the gold medal at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, she fell into a funk, not training for three months. With the help of a psychologist and a new goal ahead of her - training as a pilot - she was able to pull herself back into the best physical shape of her life. "My goal was simply to take part in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Winning a medal at the end was totally overwhelming for me. That's why I was in this mental hole. It was just super difficult for me to do anything. But in the end, it also helped and shaped me. I continued to mature both in everyday life and in sports, which is also perhaps why I decided that I wanted to be a pilot. In the end, that decision was also a new motivation for me, because it also gave me a new goal." (sporthlife.de, 20 Jan 2021; rbb24.de, 22 Feb 2021; rbb24.de, 18 Oct 2021)

DRIVING
After the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the self-professed adrenaline junkie trained as a pilot and has been competing in the two woman since 2019/20 and monobob since 2020/21. "It was a tough time afterwards. I went from the top to the bottom. You might wish it could go faster, but sometimes you can't influence that, it's an experience sport." With the depth of the German team, Buckwitz has had to take a literal backseat at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games to her former role as brakewoman. (sportbuzzer.de, 6 Sep 2021)

RELATIONSHIP
Is currently dating bobsleigh pilot Hans Peter Hannighofer (GER). (sportbuzzer.de, 6 Sep 2021)
