Husband Ivan Bilosiuk (Cross-country skiing): Competed in Junior World Championships 2003 and 2004 and U23 World Championships 2006. At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, he placed 40th in the sprint and 17th in the men's team sprint. Took part in the 2011 World Championships. Retired in 2016.

Cousin Andrii Pidhrushnyi (Biathlon): Competed at the 2016 Youth World Championships in 2016 in Cheile Gradistei with a best finish of 26th in the individual.

February 2018: Lingering illness resulted in her not competing in any races at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Mid 2017: Breathing problems. Underwent a special medical examination. The diagnosis made her change her training regime for the 2017/18 season.

March 2016: Three operations that hindered her physical condition at the beginning of the 2016/17 season. After competing at the World Championships in Hochfilzen in February 2017, she missed the last three World Cup events of the season.

While cleaning the house as part of her weekly chores, she was cleaning the knobs on the television she saw Ukrainian biathlete Olena Zubrilova competing. During the school year, a teacher from the local physical education institute came to her school and asked who would be interested in training in biathlon. "My eyes lit up." General Interest

STAMPS
Following her victory in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games relay, she was commemorated in Ukraine by a set of stamps showing the team and its members.

BREAK
Following the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, she had an emotional and physical burnout and decided to quit the sport. The Ukraine government appointed her deputy minister of youth and sport in March 2014. A year later, she decided to leave the office and return to the sport. (gazeta1.com, 18 Apr 2021)

CHILDHOOD
Her father was in the military and stationed in Poland when she was born. One year later, the family moved to Kazakhstan and three years later, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, her parents returned to Ukraine. Lived in the village of Velyka Berezovytsia near Ternopil and attended Ternopil Gymnasium No 8. Took up dancing at elementary school but later chose biathlon. (gazeta1.com, 18 Apr 2021)

MARRIAGES
Married Oleksiy Kaida, a former People's Deputy from the Svoboda All-Ukrainian Union and former deputy mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, in May 2013, with the couple divorcing in 2016. Olena remarried in Feb 2021, marrying Ivan Bilosiuk, a serviceman with the Ukraine national team. She decided to take her husband's name, something she did not do when married to Kaida.

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Two-time Olympian. Youngest female biathlete on the Vancouver 2010 team (23 years 35 days).

Part of the relay team that won Ukraine's first biathlon gold medal at Sochi 2014, the nation's second Winter Olympic gold and first since 1994.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Eight appearances, winning six medals (four in the relay). Her only championship gold was in 2013 (Nove Mesto), winning the sprint, as well as a silver (relay) and bronze (pursuit).

Youth World Championship bronze medallist, finishing third in the individual in 2006 (Presque Isle, ME).

WORLD CUP
Competed since 2008/09, with her first victory at the Oberhof relay in January. First individual podium came in December 2012, finishing second in the Oestersund sprint.

Her first and only individual World Cup victory was in February 2016 in the Canmore sprint, and finished the season a career-best seventh, finishing all disciplines in the top-12.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Five-time gold medallist, including three in 2012 (Brezno). Four additional silver medals, with the most recent in the 2020 super sprint.
