"As I liked painting, I was always with paints and in paints. My mother got worried about my health, she was telling me that I was pale, often got sick and that it's necessary to introduce me to sports. Once my father met [coach] Oleksandr Kravchenko who worked at a sports school, and I was sent to training at once." (biathlon.com.ua, 3 Dec 2012)

General Interest

PYEONGCHANG 2018
At the beginning of the Games, the President of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine said that Dzhima would not be entered into the sprint or pursuit, but would focus on the individual and mass start. However, she missed the quota for the mass start by one, after the quota was reduced. (24smi.org, 2021)

SCANDAL
In 2018, teammate Valentina Semerenko accused the coaching staff of favouritism, selecting relay athletes with lower results than her. She also claimed that Dzhima had an affair with their head coach Uros Velepec (SLO), who is 23 years her senior, even living in the same room at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

As a result, Dzhima threatened to retire, so in April 2018, they explored alternate training options, including training with the Slovenian national team, now headed by Velepec. In May, Dzhima announced she would follow Velepec to Slovenia, but gave no definitive comment regarding the suggested relationship. (24smi.org, 2021)

SPEAKING
Has a speech impediment (stammers). Rarely speaks in English at press conferences, preferring to communicate in Ukrainian or Russian. (24smi.org, 2021)

STAMPS
Their relay victory at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games was commemorated in Ukraine by a set of stamps showing the team and its members.

CHILDHOOD
Tried dancing and singing at first, but she was assessed to have no talent. She then started clay modelling, but only when she started drawing, was invited to attend an art school. She subsequently attended a math-oriented school, but continued to paint and had junior exhibitions.
