"I was only a cross-country skier, that's typical in Sweden. Then I saw the National Biathlon Championships in the stadium. What they were doing looked cool and I wanted to try it out myself." (Biathlon World Magazine, Issue 50)

Win an Olympic gold medal in an individual event. (Biathlon World Magazine, Issue 50)

:

Spent the 2020 summer training at home. "I trained more, but apart from that, I also behaved more professionally. This mainly affects my sleeping or my diet. Strength training has also done a great deal. With new people and new input in the weight room, we gained a better understanding of how training there affects performance on the trail, both in terms of strength and technique." (Biathlon World Magazine, Issue 57)

:

His first individual World Cup win at the Kontiolahti pursuit in December 2020. "I remember the entire fourth lap from my first win. When I caught up with Johannes [Thingnes Boe], I realised that I would be standing next to him at the shooting range - next to the best, a great idol. I was happy. I was then able to really enjoy the lap because I had the feeling that I was his equal and had the same chance of winning as him. That's biathlon and you never know what will happen." (Biathlon World Magazine, Issue 57)

:

Biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR), eight-time Olympic gold medallist and 20-time world champion.

General Interest

ANTI-DOPING
After the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, he decided to boycott the final World Cup races in Tyumen, Russian Federation. Justifying his boycott he stated that "nations without a functioning anti-doping organisation should not hold competitions on an international level." He was the only Swedish athlete to boycott but was joined by biathletes from Canada, Czech Republic and the United States. He said he received death threats following his decision.

In October 2018, he took part in a discussion about doping-free sport at the White House and in fall 2019, he attacked the World Anti-Doping Agency for their dealings with the Russian Anti-Doping Agency. In 2020, Samuelsson received the Sportspegelpriset awarded by the sports programme of the Swedish public television for his efforts against doping. CHILDHOOD
Grew up on his parents' farm in Malmkoeping. In 2006 the family moved to another farm further north in Solleftea, a centre of Swedish cross-country skiing. At the grammar school, he attended the same class as 2018 Olympic cross-country gold medalist Ebba Andersson.

POLITICS
Has a keen interest in politics. His mother commented, "I would not be surprised if he becomes Prime Minister when he resigns."
