Fiance Marco Gross (Biathlon): Represented Germany at three Youth/Junior World Championships, winning three silver medals in sprint (2014), pursuit (2014) and relay (2016). Competed at the IBU Cup since 2017, with one podium from the 2019 Lenzerheide single mixed relay. Son of Rico Gross, four-time Olympic gold medallist and nine-time world champion.

Summer 2017: Patellar tendon inflammation of the patellar tendon. Only had to stop jogging for a few weeks.

Went to swim training, where she was encouraged by Helen Fischer, technical manager of Nordic Engelberg, to try cross-country skiing at age 14. Switched to biathlon two years later and entered the Sports School Engelberg.

General Interest

RESIDENCE
Moved from her home town Engelberg to Ruhpolding, Germany, in 2019 to train together with her fiance Marco Gross.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER
After graduating from school, she worked part-time in a local sports shop and began distance studies in mathematics, which she interrupted to focus on sports. Graduated from the top sport recruit school in 2015 and was accepted into the Swiss army as a contract soldier in 2018 for four years, where she is also completing training as a fitness coach.

YOUTH
Attended the Swiss Sports Middle School in Engelberg and achieved A levels in 2014.

NAME
Named after the Russian river, Lena is the longest river totally within the Russian Federation and the 11th longest worldwide.

TATTOO
Has a tattoo on her right foot showing the outline of the local mountains.
