Cross-country skiing: Raced at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games, while also competing in biathlon. Finished 103rd in the 15km free at the 2021 World Championships. Five top-10 finishes at the Australia/New Zealand Cup from 2017-19. Became the U18 freestyle national champion in 2016 at age 13, after winning the U14 5km classic in 2015. Won his age class at the 2015 Merino Muster, a local skiing marathon.

Start:

Began skiing at age 10 in Snow Farm near Wanaka. Started biathlon in 2017 after local enthusiasts built the first facility in New Zealand.

Reason:

Invited by former biathlete and coach Luca Boromilini (ITA). "There's something about it, you get a great feeling from it and it's quite a unique sport." (olympic.org.nz, 2021)

Ambition:

After secure enough points to qualify and then competing at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, his focus will be on the Youth/Junior World Championships in Soldier Hollow. (biathlonworld.com, 5 Oct 2021)

Trains in Livigno, Italy, with the Australian national team.

Memorable:

Only the second teenager, after Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR), to score World Cup points when he finished 40th at the Oestersund sprint in November 2021. "It’s nice to be up against the big dogs." (1news.co.nz, 28 Dec 2021)

General Interest

BIATHLON IN NEW ZEALAND
Lives near Wanaka on New Zealand's south island, home of the only cross-country skiing centre in the country at Snow Farm. The centre also doubles as the only biathlon training facility in the country. "Wanaka becomes something special because of its people. Everyone at Snow Farm likes to chat with you and is incredibly nice. That's why I liked biathlon so much as a kid. I've always felt at home in Snow Farm." (biathlonworld.com, 5 Oct 2021)

DUAL CITIZENSHIP
Like his both parents, he is a dual citizen of New Zealand and the United States, making him eligible to also compete for the US.

Attended Mt Aspiring College in Wanaka.

Milestones

Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympian, competing in both biathlon and cross-country skiing. Missed a medal in biathlon by 2.8 seconds, after finishing fourth in the sprint behind Vegard Thon (NOR).

At his World Cup debut in November 2021 (Oestersund), he became the second teenager to score World Cup points, after Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR), when he finished 40th in the sprint.

Competed in his first senior international competition in January 2021 at the Arber IBU Cup. One week later, at the same venue, he finished a career-high fifth in the short individual.

Three consecutive appearances at the Youth World Championships (2019-21), with two top-15 results in 2020 (Lenzerheide), including finishing sixth in the sprint.
