Father Hillar Zahkna (Biathlon): Two-time Estonian Olympian (1992-94), finishing 11th in the relay at Albertville 1992. World Championship relay bronze medallist in 1992 (Novosibirsk). Former head coach of the Estonian biathlon team. Secretary-General of the Estonian Biathlon Federation and member of the IBU Technical Committee.

Partner Meril Beilmann (Biathlon): Innsbruck 2012 Estonian Youth Olympian, finishing eighth in both relays, including the cross-country biathlon mixed relay alongside Zahkna. Three World Championship appearances (2016-19) after five Youth/Junior World Championships (2012-16), finishing fourth in the relay twice. Junior European Championship mixed relay bronze medallist in 2014 (Nove Mesto). Retired in 2020.

Football: Played in Estonia's Esiliiga B (third tier) with FC Helios Voru with limited appearances during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Had stints with Voru JK and Otepaeae FC.

Cross-country skiing: Estonian relay champion in 2013.

First tried the sport at age eight, but still participated in judo, football, volleyball and athletics. Began competing in biathlon in 2006 with Voru SK.

Milestones

His only appearance at Olympic Winter Games came in 2018 reaching 75th in the sprint, 65th in the individual and 13th with the men's relay.

Since 2015, he was a regular in the Estonian team at World Championships. He had his best results in 2021 in Pokljuka with a 33rd in the individual and a 10th in the single mixed relay (with Johanna Talihaerm). At the 2018 European Championships in Ridnaun, he narrowly missed the podium finishing fourth in the single mixed relay (with Regina Oja).

At the end of the 2013/14 season, he had his debut in the World Cup in Kontiolahti. He took part in World Cup races regularly since the 2015/16 season and scored his first World Cup points in 2016 with 34th in the individual. In the 2017/18 season, he again won World Cup points with a 34th finish at the World Cup opener in Oestersund. In the 2020/21 season, he collected points in three races. In the last four seasons, he was ranked between 80th and 90th in the total score. In January 2020, he achieved his best result in relays placing second in the single mixed (with Regina Oja).

He began to compete in Youth/Junior World and European Championships in 2012. In the same year, he represented Estonia at the Winter Youth Olympic Games winning silver in both sprint and pursuit. At the 2013 Junior World Championships in the next season, he made the podium twice winning bronze in the sprint and silver in subsequent pursuit (fifth in the individual, 10th in the relay). The next year he took part in the junior races of the European Championships and claimed gold in the individual and bronze in the mixed relay. At the 2014 European Championships, he won silver in the juniors both in singles and in pursuit.
