Following her mother's example, she started cross-country skiing at age eight at Nomme Spordiklubi, before switching to biathlon in 2009. Also considered ski jumping (though not available as a girl's sport at the time) and horseback riding, but was too expensive.

Reluctant to try biathlon as she was afraid of gunfire, but she liked the variety compared to cross-country training and workouts. (nooruse.ee, 23 May 2019)

Normally trains in Otepaeae and occasionally in her home region of Nomme (Tallinn).
