Started cross-country skiing in 2000 before switching to biathlon in 2005 and beginning competition two years later. Attended the ski boarding school in Furtwangen until his graduation in 2011 (zoll.de, May 2021)

Inspired by his father, winter sports played a major role in his family. After trying cross-country skiing and biathlon, he chose to focus on biathlon, because he felt that it was the more interesting sport. (zoll.de, May 2021)

Milestones

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Was nominated for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games to represent Germany in his best discipline, the individual. However, due to illness, he was not able to compete.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Was a member of the German team at the 2019 and 2021 World Championships winning silver in the relay in 2019 and individually placing seventh in 2021 in the individual.

Junior World Championship relay gold medallist in 2014 (Presque Isle), after finishing fourth in 2012. Had four individual top-10 finishes in his three appearances (2012-14).

WORLD CUP
Five World Cup podiums (four in relays), with his first at the Kontiolahti single mixed relay in March 2017. Partnered with Laura Dahlmeier, they finished 0.5 seconds behind silver medallists United States and 3.2 seconds ahead of France in fourth. 2020/21 was his best season placing 28th in the total score.

Just one individual podium, finishing third at the Soldier Hollow sprint in February 2019, edging out teammate Erik Lesser by 0.6 seconds.

Finished the 2019/20 IBU Cup mass start fourth overall after two podium finishes. Has seven career podiums, all in individual disciplines.

Triple medallist at the 2011 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Liberec, winning mixed relay gold, sprint silver and individual bronze.
