19 December 2020: Fractured her ankle training in Sterzing, Italy which required surgery. Originally expected to be out for six weeks, she did not return to racing for the remainder of the 2020/21 season, missing the World Championships. The injury came on the heels of multiple periods of COVID-19 quarantine. She did not return to racing until 20 November 2021, a break of 21 months. During her long rehabilitation from a broken ankle in December 2020, at one point she wondered if she would walk again. She had strong support from a team of physiotherapists including Cecilia Kalla, sister of Olympic cross country champion Charlotte Kalla (SWE). "I feel in better shape physically than I have ever done. I have had a lot of time last winter to train. I have become a little bigger and stronger, I feel strong in the gym but also on these rowing machines, on the assault bike and everything that we drive a lot of. Then I feel resilient and strong."
