9 December 2020: Tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee during giant slalom training in Zinal, ending her 2020/21 season. Returned to racing 11 months later, finishing 12th in the parallel in Lech/Zuers. (Athlete, 21 Nov 2021; archyde.com, 11 Dec 2020)
Spring 2017: During her rehabilitation from knee surgery and after six years of managing back pain, she underwent surgery to remove an intervertebral disc, at the time seemingly ending her career. Financed her own return to sport and was back racing in February 2018 and back to the World Cup in October 2018, four years after her last World Cup race. (andreaellenberger.ch)
January 2016: Tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. Continued competing with a knee brace but eventually had surgery in October 2016, missing the entire 2016/17 season. 7 January 2010: Suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) at a FIS giant slalom in Zinal ending her 2009/10 season. Missed most of the 2010/11 season, returning to competition in a series of FIS races in April 2011. (andreaellenberger.ch)

Began skiing when she was three years old, encouraged by her parents. Progressed quickly, joining the local Hergiswil Ski Club. As a young junior racer, she was competing at the same level as future Swiss stars Wendy Holdener and Michelle Gisin, both from the same 1993 birth year as her.
